MaKunta is a growing interior décor brand focused on transforming houses into homes. While the business currently specialises in custom curtains, its long-term vision is to offer complete interior décor solutions, creating spaces that are warm, functional, and thoughtfully designed.

Translating the Client's Vision

Unlike many branding projects that begin with broad exploration, MaKunta started with a very clear vision from the client. They wanted the logo to incorporate the letters M and K, feel warm and welcoming, and represent both their current focus on curtain manufacturing and their long-term ambition of becoming a complete interior décor brand.

Rather than treating these requirements as limitations, I used them as design constraints that guided every sketch. The challenge became finding a way to combine multiple ideas into a single, memorable symbol without making it feel forced or overly complex. Through a series of explorations, the concept of a house emerged as the strongest visual metaphor, representing not only the spaces their products belong in, but also the future direction of the business.

Creating Meaning Through Simplicity

Once the core concept had been established, the focus shifted to refining the relationships between the different elements of the logo. The final icon was constructed by combining the M within the lower structure while allowing the K to emerge naturally through negative space. Together, these forms create the silhouette of a home, reinforcing the brand's position within the interior décor industry.

The curtain-inspired shapes also read as open blinds, introducing the idea of openness, transformation, and evolving spaces. Rather than relying on literal illustrations, the logo communicates these ideas through simple geometry and carefully balanced proportions.

The wordmark was then developed to echo the same visual language. The distinctive M from the symbol was carried into the typography, creating a stronger relationship between the icon and the name and resulting in a cohesive identity system rather than two separate components.

Extending the Identity Beyond the Logo

A strong brand extends beyond its logo, so the next step was to develop supporting elements that could carry the identity across different touchpoints.

Instead of introducing unrelated graphics, I looked back at the logo itself for inspiration. The negative space created by two mirrored M forms became the foundation for a custom pattern system. By repeating and rotating this shape, the pattern feels uniquely connected to the identity while remaining subtle enough to support packaging, stationery, and other brand applications without competing with the logo.

The colour palette was chosen to reinforce the emotional qualities of the brand. Warm terracotta introduces a sense of comfort and craftsmanship, muted green reflects calmness and natural living, while charcoal provides contrast and sophistication. Cream softens the overall palette, creating an identity that feels timeless, welcoming, and at home within the spaces MaKunta aims to transform.
