OK Zimbabwe is one of the country's most established retail brands, with decades of recognition built around its simple yet iconic name. Over time, however, the identity evolved in a way that distanced it from the visual equity customers had come to associate with the brand. While the intention was to modernise, the result felt less distinctive, less adaptable, and disconnected from the confidence that once defined OK.

Putting the "OK" Back at the Centre

For decades, OK Zimbabwe built strong recognition around one simple idea, the bold, unmistakable "OK." Over time, however, the brand evolved into an identity that relied more on decorative styling than on the distinctive asset people already associated with the retailer. The result was a logo that felt less confident, less scalable, and disconnected from the equity the brand had built over generations.

This redesign concept wasn't about replacing OK Zimbabwe's identity, it was about uncovering what already made it memorable.

The goal was to create a visual system that felt modern and relevant while preserving the familiarity customers had come to trust. Every decision was guided by the idea that evolution should strengthen recognition, not compete with it.

Simplicity That Builds Recognition

The redesign focuses on the two letters that have always defined the brand. Rather than treating OK as ordinary typography, the letters become a custom symbol with bold, geometric construction and carefully balanced proportions. Rounded corners soften the identity, making it feel approachable and friendly, while the heavier forms give it confidence and presence across every touchpoint.

The accompanying wordmark introduces a flexible system that allows the brand to adapt to different formats without losing recognition. By separating OK from mart, the identity reinforces the most recognizable part of the name while giving the retail descriptor its own visual hierarchy. The tagline, My Happy Place, adds warmth and personality, balancing the boldness of the logo with a more human expression of the brand.

Together, these elements create an identity that feels contemporary, approachable, and unmistakably OK Zimbabwe.

A Brand Built for Every Touchpoint

Retail brands live across hundreds of customer interactions, from storefront signage and shopping bags to mobile apps, loyalty cards, advertising, and social media. The redesigned identity was developed with this versatility in mind.

The simplified geometry ensures the logo remains clear and recognizable at every size, while the bold forms provide strong visibility from a distance and excellent performance in digital environments. The iconic OK can also function independently as a recognizable brand asset, allowing the identity to remain consistent even when the full wordmark isn't present.

Rather than relying on visual complexity, the system embraces clarity and confidence. It demonstrates how a well-established brand can evolve without abandoning the familiarity that customers already know and trust, creating an identity that feels equally at home in today's digital landscape and on the high street.
